Anarcho-capitalism
Anarcho-capitalism is a political philosophy that advocates for the abolition of centralized states and emphasizes the importance of private property and contractual agreements in the economic system. Proponents of anarcho-capitalism argue that the state currently impedes the development of a truly free society and that its presence results in a coercive system within capitalist societies.
Key Tenets of Anarcho-capitalism Include:
- Abolition of the State: Anarcho-capitalists believe the state should be dismantled because it inherently imposes coercive control over individuals and their interactions.
- Free Market Economy: They argue that a free market is the foundation of a free society, where individuals are free to engage in voluntary exchanges and contractual agreements without state interference.
- Private Agencies for Enforcement: Instead of the state enforcing contracts and resolving disputes, private agencies would compete in a free market to provide these services.
- Private Ownership of Means of Production: Anarcho-capitalists advocate for private ownership of the means of production and believe that work and commodities should be organized through a system of wage labor.
- Original Appropriation and Self-Ownership: They uphold the concept of “original appropriation,” which allows individuals to claim ownership over unused resources, and “self-ownership,” which refers to an individual’s absolute right over their own body.
Many anarcho-capitalists view blockchain-based decentralized technologies as potential solutions to practical problems within their philosophy. These technologies offer decentralized services that can serve as alternatives to state functions, providing immutable and publicly accessible records of identity and contractual obligations through smart contracts.
There have been small-scale experiments in creating communities based on anarcho-capitalist principles. One notable example is Liberstad, a private city society in Norway founded in 2015, which aims to operate according to anarcho-capitalist ideals.
